Angélique Kidjo Reimagines The Talking Heads
Three-time Grammy Award winner Angélique Kidjo has won fans across the globe with her striking voice, stage presence and fluency in multiple cultures and languages. Her newest project, which she will perform as part of CAP UCLA's 2017-18 season, is her version of the Talking Heads' ground-breaking 1980 album, Remain in Light. Kidjo takes unforgettable songs such as "Crosseyed and Painless," "Once in a Lifetime" and "Born Under Punches (The Heat Goes On)," reinterpreting them with African guitars, electrifying rhythms and layered backing vocals. Kidjo puts her own stamp on this eternal milestone album at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles, while paying homage to its brave vision and extraordinary power, which is still as daring and innovative as it was nearly four decades ago.
