I've gone on several of the Esotouric tours---Crime Tour of Pasadena, 2 Noir-related tours of Raymond Chandler related locations---and all tours have been eye-opening in terms of learning more about L.A.'s secrets. Richard Schave and his wife Kim...continued

The tour was informative, interesting and macabre!
I took my son (and two of his friends) for his 27th birthday. He and both friends enjoyed it, too. Husband and wife tour guides, and their red headed friend, did a wonderful job relating...continued

Had a great time on the tour. Our guides were personable and offered up quite a bit of information they had compiled on the downtown hotels and some juicy history of burlesque & b girls in Los Angeles. My only complaint would be that the bus did...continued

Description

On this insider’s meander through downtown you’ll visit the scenes of weird crimes and peculiar happenings, and see vintage photographs of the scenes as they appeared up to 100 years ago.

The Hotel Horrors portion of the tour features true crime and oddities including some of the wildest, weirdest, goriest and most memorable happenings in historic hotels like the Alexandria, Barclay and Cecil. Get on the bus to find out where Night Stalker Richard Ramirez liked to stay and the hotel that saw a visit from the Skid Row Slasher, and the spot where two traveling chocolate salesmen laughed so hard they fell backward out a window to their deaths.

The Main Street Vice portion is a celebration of the ribald, racy, raunchy old promenade where the better people simply did not travel, but kicks were had by all who did. Burlesque babes and dirty picture parlors, mummified old west outlaws and old time tattoo parlors, wax museums and pawn brokers, “professors” offering sex lectures and magazine peddlers with nudie Marilyn Monroe calendars under the counter, sophisticated steak houses and nickel donut dives — these were the pleasures and the people to be found along Main during the first half of the 20th century, a street that every Angeleno knew offered more (yet less) of what could be seen anywhere else. On this tour, visit the scenes of some more unforgettable debaucheries and share stories of crime, smut, passion and commerce.

You may bring food or drink. You are advised to have a filling breakfast and bring a sack lunch if desired. The Daily Dose has great breakfast options, but please arrive with time to spare should you wish to eat before the tour.

No video or audio recording without permission.

Please wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable walking shoes for occasional off-bus adventures.

This tours lasts approximately four hours.
