Surfacing: How Communities Use Music to Create Change
Experience the music and dance that's changing the world. A team from The New York Times is traveling home and abroad to surface stories that don't get told -- from NYC burlesque to Mexican rappers to L.A. Chicano culture in Japan. For one night, dive firsthand into the Surfacing photos, videos and music that bring you closer to it all. Plus, stay for an hour-long dance set inspired by the reporting of the team's own Walter Thompson-Hernández, a Los Angeles-based visual journalist and Surfacing fellow for The Times, who'll be hosting the evening. DJ Francesca Harding of Los Angeles's 90.7FM KPFK will keep the dance floor moving at the Theatre at Ace Hotel.
