Trio Los Machos
, a played inspired by the legendary music of Trio Los Panchos, returns to CASA 0101 Theater. Written by Josefina Lopez, the award-winning playwright, novelist and screenwriter (Real Women Have Curves
), Trio Los Machos
follows three young migrant workers who come to the US through the Bracero guest worker program (1942-1964). Their tuneful harmonies are a big hit with the boys in the field workers' barracks and eventually the three decide to pursue music full-time. However, as the passage of time undermines their health and abilities, the musicians become increasingly dependent on each other. Their proud machismo, once an armor against a difficult world, suddenly becomes an obstacle to their happiness. Throughout the piece, the music of the world-famous trío romántico, Trio Los Panchos, richly evokes a little-appreciated period in the histories of America and Mexico.
