It's time for another spooky marriage of opera and film for Halloween! LA Opera's annual Halloween mashup returns to downtown L.A. in the spectacular gothic cavern that is The Theatre at Ace Hotel. This year's deathly delight is Carl Theodor Dreyer's surreal 1932 masterwork, Vampyr. A favorite of legends like Alfred Hitchcock and Guillermo del Toro, this often overlooked horror classic has become an important landmark of the horror genre. Pioneering special effects, eerie visual poetry and off-kilter characters combine to weave a bizarre, dream-like narrative that will haunt you even after the credits roll. Composer Joby Talbot creates a compelling new score for chamber orchestra and singers, performed live under the baton of Matthew Aucoin in the stunningly ornate Theatre at Ace Hotel in the heart of downtown. The Halloween performance will be followed by LA Opera's costumed after-party (admission is included with your ticket).
