Family Film Classic The Wizard of Oz With Live Orchestra
In the enduring 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy (portrayed by the immortal Judy Garland) journeys to the magical land of Oz and then tries to find her way home to Kansas. Along the way, she and her new friends the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion, together with her little dog Toto, battle the Wicked Witch of the West as the Miami Symphonic Studio Orchestra performs the tuneful score by Harold Arlen and Herbert Stothart. The Wizard of Oz was a technical marvel for MGM in the late 1930s. Now the brilliantly restored images are accompanied by full symphony orchestra playing entirely new transcriptions of Harold Arlen's brilliant lost scores. Hearing Judy Garland's original 1939 studio recordings, backed by lush, live orchestration, will transport children and adults alike. See the beloved Oscar-winning film on the big screen at Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami. Constantine Kitsopoulos conducts.
