Choro Borealis: Latin Music Trio Performs Live in Concert
With elements of African, European and even Israeli music, Choro (pronounced "show-roo") is badder than the bossa nova and more sassy than the samba. This upbeat mix of jazz and Latin has its roots in 19th-century Rio de Janeiro. And now a trio of Midwestern musicians are bringing it back. Choro Borealis consists of Robert Everest (seven-string guitar), Pat O'Keefe (B-flat and bass clarinet, percussion) and Tim O'Keefe (mandolin and percussion). Members of the group also play the cavaquinho, a traditional stringed instrument similar to a ukulele.
