Cowboy Versus Samurai: Comedy About Love, Race & Identity
Cyrano de Bergerac is a comic tale so beloved and universal, it's been reimagined as everything from a Steve Martin comedy (Roxanne) and a young adult novel (Sway) to a '90s teen movie (Whatever It Takes). Now Cowboy Versus Samurai flips the script on Cyrano once more, this time centering the story around Travis Park, a high school English teacher -- and the only Korean-American living in a dusty town in Wyoming. One day, a Korean-American woman who only dates white men moves into town. Things really start to heat up when she finds out her new beau, Del, isn't the one writing his own love letters ... and that his best friend Travis may be behind them. Ultimately, Travis must choose between his American and his Asian identity -- between the cowboy and the samurai -- in this savagely mirthful and often moving play presented at the Pear Theatre in Mountain View.
