Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5 is the most popular of all the Russian composer's work, and one of the 20th century's most powerful symphonies. The public reaction to Symphony No. 5 was astounding -- upon its premier performance in 1937, it garnered an ovation lasting over half an hour. Influenced by Gustav Mahler, it was written both to placate the Soviet regime, who had loudly voiced their disapproval of Shostakovich's previous work, and for the Russian public as a moving reflection on their suffering under Stalin. Gerard Schwarz conducts the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra in this monumental piece, along with Strauss' Violin Concerto led by Concertmaster/violinist Eric Wyrick and Romantic-era composer Goldmark's In Springtime. Me and my family absolutely love this show.Wonderful voices, excellent performance.Todd hosted the concert in warm & friendly atmosphere. A lot of interested info about performing actors & shows used for this particular concert. Audience was so exited and pleased. It remind us the shows of David Foster - composer & producer(you might seen it on PBS very often). Thanks to Goldsrar, everything was organised very well, especially for me because I have limited mobility. Todd planing another show with romantic tunes in October. The only unpleasant part of this experience was a problem with parking.I didn't check this part because didn't expect this problem in small town. But it designed like in the city. The theater located in the center of the town.I guess you understand what it mean. Just a few handicapped parking spots in front of the theater. But they do have parking garage around the corner and on the back of tickets info that you can get a parking discount. Can't tell more because my husband found the spot on a street. There are meters on that block but it doesn't seems town charges us at 8 pm. At the same time at the break time and after the show a policemen conducted the safety and crossing the street. That was nice from town / theater.
