"Broadway by the Year" Is a Fun, Witty Musical Tour
There's nothing like a sweeping overture or big, act-closing chorus to lift your spirits -- and "Broadway by the Year" packs so many favorites into one show, you'll be floating by night's end. The critically acclaimed series, created for New York's Town Hall by Scott Siegel, takes audiences on a musical tour of the Great White Way and offers an entertaining verbal account of Broadway's history. Each evening celebrates the songs from Broadway shows of a selected year, sung by a cast of talented cabaret and Broadway performers. Tonight's first stop is 1956, featuring songs from shows like My Fair Lady, Mr. Wonderful, The Most Happy Fella, Li'l Abner, Bells Are Ringing and more. The second act ushers in faves from hit 1975 Broadway musicals like The Wiz, Shenandoah, Chicago and A Chorus Line. This "witty, breezily-paced" (The New York Times) program not only highlights well-known show-stopping numbers, it also features lesser-known gems you'll love.
