Williams Meets Inge in The Gentleman Caller
Before becoming two of America's most famed playwrights, the lives of William Inge (Daniel K. Isaac, Billions) and Tennessee Williams (Juan Francisco Villa, Oedipus El Rey) happen to collide, sending each of them -- and the course of American theater -- down a consequential new path. The Gentleman Caller is set just before the Chicago premiere of The Glass Menagerie, when Inge, a St. Louis newspaper critic, invites Williams to his apartment for an interview, which turns into something much more personal. The Abingdon Theatre Company stages the New York premiere of this new play by Philip Dawkins (Charm, Le Switch, The Homosexuals) at the Cherry Lane.
