A Walt Whitman Sampler, Presented by American Symphony Orchestra
Leon Botstein conducts the American Symphony Orchestra in their 2018-19 season opener, featuring the works of composers inspired by Walt Whitman. Fresh off the Metropolitan Opera stage as Musetta in La Bohème, the ASO welcomes soprano Angel Blue, known for her glistening upper register, "smoky" middle register, and beautiful timbre. She will perform the New York premiere of Franz Schreker's Vom ewigen Leben as well as with baritone Elliot Madore, Baritone in Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony. Praised for his "exceptional" artistry by The New York Times, Canadian baritone Elliot Madore will perform the New York premiere of Kurt Weill's Four Walt Whitman Songs. This Wednesday night program includes: Othmar Schoeck's Trommelschläge (US Premiere), Kurt Weill's Four Walt Whitman Songs (New York Premiere), Franz Schreker's Vom ewigen Leben (From Eternal Life) (New York Premiere), Ralph Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony (Symphony No. 1) with soprano Angel Blue, baritone Elliot Madore and the Bard Festival Chorale.
