Paul Winter’s 40th Annual Winter Solstice Celebration Reviews & Ratings
We loved it. The music was wonderful and the setting within the cathedral combined with fabulous lighting effects made for a spectacle of huge proportions. This show has been a holiday tradition in New York for decades would highly recommend.
reviewed Dec 19 2014 report as inappropriateEclectic, new age, and spiritual.
It leaves an impression on you, even the cavernous venue is a sight to behold.
Combined with the effects of the stage, music, and performance.
This was my first time to the Winter Solstice. It was unbelievable! No words to explain. Mystical, spectacular, unique - a must see!
reviewed Dec 22 2018 report as inappropriateMagnificent from beginning to end!! I definitely want to return in June for the Summer Solstice and/or Winter Solstice 2019. The soloist Theresa Thomason was absolutely amazing and the high energy from Forces of Nature Dance Theatre was nothing...continued
reviewed Dec 20 2018 report as inappropriateThis was a phenomenal experience. Highly highly recommend. So beautiful.
reviewed Dec 14 2017 report as inappropriateThe music was too generic, pretentious, even boring: not classic, not jazz, something that might be qualified as music from the earth. The musicians were good, but the result was not remarkable at all. The dancers were mediocre. Their movements...continued
reviewed Dec 21 2018 report as inappropriateI thought the performance was excellent. My main concern & request for future performances is to make the stage higher. Since there isn’t stadium seating, most of us could only listen to the performance & not see it. This was especially...continued
reviewed Dec 21 2018 report as inappropriateIncredibly entertaining and rousing. Had no idea it would be so moving. The accompanying 'Forces of Nature Dance Theater' performed African dances to driving drum rhythms. Cello soloist Eugene Friesen was a revelation!
reviewed Dec 20 2018 report as inappropriateA wonderful celebration of the season! The beautiful music reverberating through the magnificent cathedral was sublime!
reviewed Dec 14 2017 report as inappropriateI should have read the bulletin explaining the symbols beforehand. After I did, I got it, though I thought I got it before. At the conclusion, my friends and I got up to leave. Fortunate for us, we would have missed the projection of the earth...continued
reviewed Dec 22 2018 report as inappropriateGreat opportunity to see the cathedral. The show was quite impressive but the "free" seats weren't very good or comfortable so we left during intermission. Still a great evening out.
reviewed Dec 22 2018 report as inappropriateI have been going to the Paul Winter Winter Solstice concert for many years, with few exceptions. I always look forward to the opening; the pageantry of the entrance of the featured dancers; the Longest Night piece with the spectacular gong sun...continued
reviewed Dec 21 2018 report as inappropriateVery slick production. The venue (The Cathedral of St. John the Devine) was a showstopper. Worth seeing once, at least.
reviewed Dec 22 2018 report as inappropriateWe enjoyed it overall, but it felt like the longest evening! And the chairs were so uncomfortable! It was way too long - almost 3h long! (including the intermission). Some parts were great- the singer had a beautiful voice and the African dance...continued
