Our exploration includes sampling the food, checking out the shops and learning the history of this fascinating neighborhood- the gateway to America for generation of immigrants- their first glimpse of life in the USA. As it constantly reinvents itself the shops and businesses reflect its most recent rebirth- the place for designer boutiques, cozy restaurants, lounges and music venues and unique hotels. Stops will include but are not limited to historic synagogues,
a Buddhist Temple, the Essex Street Market, the best deli in NYC and other food shops that made LES famous as well as the newest additions to the neighborhood. Tastings will include doughnuts, pickles, salami, penny candy, farmstead cheese, and dumplings and more.
Walking tours are about 1.5-2 miles long with tastings along the way. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
