Orff's Carmina Burana With Powell's Gospel Trinity
Even if you're not a classical music aficionado, you've certainly heard the opening movement of Carl Orff's 1937 composition Carmina Burana. The stunning, powerful, instantly recognizable "O Fortuna" has been featured in media as diverse as The Matrix, Glee, Shrek and even Jackass: The Movie. In The Sacred and the Profane at New York's David Geffen Hall, the Distinguished Concerts Singers and Orchestra perform Orff's full 25-movement piece, based on a series of medieval poems about life, love, drinking, gambling and more. In addition to this acclaimed and popular work of concert repertoire, the ensemble performs Rosephanye Powell's soulful and uplifting vocal masterwork Gospel Trinity.
