Enjoyed The Republic of Pie, a pleasant walk west on south side of Magnolia. Casual friendly vibe. Jazz bass and keyboards in front of us on Sunday afternoon.

Apparently there is a small parking lot adjacent to the theater with free parking, but I missed it entirely, and found free parking (after 6 PM) on neighborhood streets and enjoyed a safe walk to/from.

This is a charming play, capturing time, place, social issues seen as a part of baseball's American movement. It is funny, touching with marvelous characters. See it by all means, you'll love it.

Tight script, superb acting, had an extremely enjoyable night. Would recommend to anyone who wants to see a really good story, and you don't need to have an interest in baseball to love it.

Quotes & Highlights

“Director Darryl Johnson’s cast perform consistently well … There is much to enjoy here, especially if you’re a baseball fan.” -LA Weekly
“Director Darryl Johnson’s light touch saves the story from being bombastic or melodramatic, even as the characters’ revelations of their secrets unfold. Very well cast, the ensemble is perfectly natural and engaging. It is a fine-tuned production inaugurating the Road Theatre Company’s second space, The Road on Magnolia.”
“Powerful and poignant” —
“The multilayered journey and the final outcome here, are compellingly entertaining, and heart touching.” –_Tolucan Times _
“There’s not an unsympathetic character on the Road On Magnolia stage, and with director Darryl Johnson coaxing pitch-perfect performances from an impassioned Burroughs, a feisty Grant, a perky Shoemaker, a peppy McNeill, and vibrant Hu, there’s not a weak-link in the cast.”—StageSceneLA
