This venerable chestnut was made famous in America by Broadway icons Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne-even screen star Jeanette MacDonald and husband Gene Raymond reprised The Guardsman in 1951, with songs added. Veteran director Lillian Groag has mounted a stellar production at the first-rate NoHo Arts Center, with clever use of two "footmen" who change the imaginative sets with choreographed movements. The cast is very professional and adapted for the married couple to be older than in normal productions; however, this works against believability as the husband looks his real age of 71, while his wife, 54, looks 10 years younger. Source: imdb. Even disguised as a Russian guardsman the husband looks old and the wife's being enamored of him requires a huge suspension of reality.
