The Music of Harold Arlen at The Soraya: Presale
All the Technicolor in the world wouldn't have made Oz as bright if it weren't for the music of Harold Arlen, who scored the 1939 classic and gave us timeless songs like "Over the Rainbow" and "If I Only Had a Brain." Over the years, legends like Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra have given Harold Arlen a revered place in the Great American Songbook with their performances of his 400-plus songs, including "It's Only a Paper Moon" and "Stormy Weather." Starting in a synagogue with his cantor father, Arlen's musical roots extend through his jazz years at the Cotton Club in Harlem all the way to Hollywood and his Oscar-winning work for The Wizard of Oz. For this special concert event at The Soraya in Northridge, Hal's son, Sam Arlen, leads a big band in tribute to his father, sharing the stage with Broadway powerhouse Eden Espinosa, the star off Broadway smashes like Wicked, Brooklyn, and Rent who's been called "one of the most exciting voices of her generation" (Playbill).
