Author-Activist Dick Simpson: The Good Fight
Chicago's produced its fair share of influential politicians over the years (Obama, anyone?), and now Dick Simpson, one of the city's most distinguished activists and thinkers comes to the Oak Park Festival Theatre for an event entitled Life Lessons from a Chicago Progressive: A Community Conversation. The author of the recently released memoir The Good Fight, Simpson was famed for going up against Mayor Daley's political machine while serving as an alderman, and the long-time U of I poli-sci professor hasn't backed off a bit since. Following the reading, election attorney Richard Means is set to lead a discussion on Simpson's career and current-day issues, followed by an audience Q&A. Then stick around after the event for a book signing and champagne and dessert reception. It's all happening at the 19th Century Charitable Association in Oak Park.
