Oakland East Bay Symphony and Music Director Michael Morgan are excited to showcase the music from the next stop on their "virtual world tour" -- the Middle East. Featuring the works of Egyptian, Israeli and Palestinian artists, Notes from the Middle East
aims to inspire understanding and dialogue between cultures. The program opens with Egyptian composer Nader Abbassi's The Nile Bride
, a tone poem based on ancient Egyptian legend, conducted by Israeli-American Daniel Alfred Wachs, who will also lead the orchestra in its performance of Astrolatry
, a work written by Avner Dorman, one of Israel's most popular composers. Morgan will lead the orchestra's first performance of Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto
, featuring Israeli soloist Eliran Avni, as well as the world premiere of Palestinian-American composer John Bisharat's Ya Way Li
. Arrive early for a pre-concert talk by John Kendall Bailey, Principal Conductor of the Oakland Youth Orchestra, and Bisharat.
