Medicine's Last Frontier: Conquering Diseases of the Brain
Often called "the last frontier of medicine," the human brain is an infinitely complex organ of which science is only beginning to scratch the surface in its understanding. Despite major advances in other areas of medicine, diseases of the brain, from Alzheimer's to Parkinson's and multiple sclerosis, continue to plague our society. Now, after decades of research, scientists are beginning to see real hope for treatment of these diseases. Dale Schenk, Ph.D., CEO of biotech company Prothena, is your guide through the charted territories of the brain. He'll also provide an inside look at how cutting edge medical treatments are born, from inception to the patient's bedside. Lisa Krieger, science reporter for the San Jose Mercury News, will moderate.
