It's alive! Palo Alto Players presents Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks' Broadway hit based on his classic 1974 movie. Brooks reunited with the creative team behind The Producers for a comedic re-imagining of the Frankenstein story. Follow young Dr. Frankenstein (pronounced "Fronkensteen") as he tries to complete his grandfather's work and bring a corpse back to life. He's aided by the hunchbacked, bulging-eyed Igor, his beautiful lab assistant, Inga and an eccentric housekeeper, Frau Blucher. Featuring larger-than-life characters and hilariously catchy tunes like "Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and "Puttin' on the Ritz," Young Frankenstein is guaranteed to produce monstrous laughs. Quotes & Highlights
“A real comic gift…delicious.” —Variety
The Learned Ladies of Park Avenue is a jazz-age screwball comedy riff on Moliere’s biting satire of pretense and learning. Betty wants to marry Dicky. Her mother Phyllis, a self-proclaimed intellectual and political activist, has another man in mind—namely, the hack poet and scheming opportunist Upton Gabbitt. Set in 1936 Manhattan against the backdrop of the Great Depression and impending war, this romantic comedy skewers those who wear their social conscience on their sleeve and affirms that love conquers all.
Translated and freely adapted from Moliere’s Les Femmes Savantes by David Grimm.
This production marks the West Coast premiere.
