The iconic Bobby McFerrin brings his newest album, spirityou
all, to the Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall. On the new disc, McFerrin re-imagines Americana's beloved spirituals and other songs through his unique blend of (mostly) a cappella folk, rock, blues and gospel. Inspired by his baritone father, the first African-American to sign a contract with the Metropolitan Opera and a well-known interpreter of the American spiritual, McFerrin performs traditional works like "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot" and "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands," along with a number of originals featuring his signature improvisational sound. Famed for creating both melody and percussion using just his voice and body, McFerrin scored a worldwide hit in 1988 with his most famous single, "Don't Worry, Be Happy," which took home Grammys for both Song and Record of the Year. Join him as he raises the roof with his joyful and engaging grooves.
