Singer-songwriter Lionel Richie got his start in Motown as part of the Commodores, but it's as a solo artist that he really shines. He became one of the most successful male solo artists of the 1980s, earning No. 1 hits starting with his debut in 1982 with "Truly." His other hits include the Caribbean-flavored "All Night Long," "Endless Love" with Diana Ross, "Hello" and "Say You, Say Me," which also won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe. Now the five-time Grammy winner is following up a sold-out European run with a North American tour, including a stop at Ak-Chin Pavilion. He'll perform hits from his 30-year discography, beginning with his eponymous 1982 debut and extending through 2012's Tuskegee, a platinum-selling collection that features duets of his hits with a variety of artists. Word on the street is that these concerts tend to become a giant sing-along, so brush up on your lyrics and get ready for some of the greatest ballads the '80s had to offer and much more. Sharing the stage with the five-time Grammy winner will be CeeLo Green. Known for his solo career as well as being a part of the soul duo Gnarls Barkley, Green has recorded numerous hits and is most widely recognized for the chart-topping single "Crazy" and his time as a judge on The Voice. What a great evening. Symphony Hall was cool (temperature) and comfortable. (seating) Parking was no issue as Phoenix Police Officers assisted us with parking choices. The 2 tickets purchased from Goldstar were available at willcall (no wait) and provided us with awesome lower level seats, dead center of the auditorium / stage. Music was exceptional and very uplifting. Sololist was a added bonus and very charming. As a Veteran I appreciate the Symphony taking the time to "call us out" (and stand) to have the audience give us their thanks, for our military service. I hope to return next year as the concert ended the Memorial Day Holiday week. Thank you Goldstar and the Phoenix Symphony.
