Portland Opera's Faust
It's no secret that everybody wants to turn back the clock and be young again. But all the pricey night creams and surgeries in the world couldn't get the same results as aging philosopher Faust does when he makes a deal with the devil to restore his youth. Magically transformed into a dashing young man, Faust pursues a relationship with the innocent Marguerite -- but dealing with the devil is risky business and he soon discovers the diabolically high price for his immortal soul. Known for its famed "Jewel Song," this operatic thriller from Charles Gounod has left audiences spellbound since its Paris premiere in 1859. Now you can see this truly timeless tale made anew in this Portland Opera production at Keller Auditorium, which features stunning sets, costumes and 3D projections from sculptor and artist John Frame, whose creative visions have been exhibited at the Portland Art Museum.
