Alberta Rose welcomes singer-songwriter Lucy Kaplansky to the stage for a one-night concert celebrating the release of her newest CD, Kaplansky Sings Kaplansky
. In a departure from her usual fusion of alternative country, roots rock and folk, the new work features songs written by her father, famed University of Chicago mathematician Irving Kaplansky, including live performances of the two of them performing together in California. This is her first venture into 1940s-style swing. Kaplansky collaborated with Suzanne Vega and Shawn Colvin, among others, before earning her PhD. in psychology and entering private practice for several years. The call of music eventually proved too strong to resist, however, and she re-entered the NYC music scene as one-third of the folk trio Cry Cry Cry and releasing several solo albums. She continues to tour, both as a soloist and as part of the popular folk group Red Horse.
