With more terrifying intensity than the hardest punk rock song, with more moments of angelic grace than the sweetest church hymn, Verdi's Requiem
transcends every category and genre, existing in its own realm of perfection. From the moment it was first performed in Milan in 1874, this musical arrangement for four soloists, chorus and orchestra has come to define "monumental." Every emotion is fantastically heightened from the agony of judgment ("Dies Irae") to the balm of consolation ("Agnus Dei"). Now artistic director Steven Zopfi leads the 130-member Portland Symphonic Choir along with a full orchestra and distinguished soloists in the performance of this powerful masterpiece. Oregon native and acclaimed soprano Kelley Nassief ("If the angels in heaven really sing, please let them do it like Nassief" exclaimed one German newspaper) returns home as a featured soloist.
