Red Herring Leads to Romance, Intrigue and Laughs
Michael Hollinger's play Red Herring is a "comedic noir fable," a madcap mash-up of a spy thriller and a hard-boiled detective story. Travel back to one week in 1952, when America liked Ike and hated Commies, to meet Frank, a rough-and-tumble G-man (think Robert Mitchum), and his tough-as-nails girlfriend, policewoman Maggie (think Barbara Stanwyck). In a deliciously tangled plot that spans Boston, Wisconsin and the South Pacific, Maggie and Frank chase murderers and spies in the murky fog of the early Cold War period. The Artists Repertory Theatre presents the Northwest premiere of this pulpy, fast-talking treat. Don't be confused by the title, Red Herring is the real thing, a play that delivers laughs, thrills and romance.
