Redlands Symphony Performs Bach, Dvořák, Barber & Poulenc
$12.50 - $30*
$25 - $60
Great composers are, by definition, thieves. Dvořák ripped off ancient Bohemian folk dances. Barber "borrowed" some of Bach's old stuff -- Poulenc did the same, as well pinching flourishes from Handel and Buxtehude. But, as Godard once said, "It's not where you take things from -- it's where you take them to." Now, in the second installment of their Masters of Music series, the Redlands Symphony investigates just "where" these artists took the old bits they stole, discovering that often the most innovative, revolutionary work rests on the foundations of old-fashioned forms. Jon Robertson conducts the Symphony through an exciting program with legendary organist Frederick Swann emerging from retirement to play on Poulenc's Concerto for Organ, Timpani and Strings.
