California Riverside Ballet's always-grand Yuletide production of Tchaikovsky's beloved dance, an annual tradition since 1979, features an all-new, state-of-the-art digital projection set, a live orchestra -- and even some falling snow. New York City Ballet principals Janie Taylor and Sebastien Marcovici are the featured dancers in the story of young Clara, who is given a gift of a Nutcracker doll one holiday. When Clara falls asleep that night, her Nutcracker magically comes to life as a Prince. After he and his soldiers fight off the fierce Mouse King, the Prince transports Clara through the forest to the Land of the Sugarplum Fairy. Acclaimed international pianist and conductor Scott Dunn leads a live orchestra for each show, which also features professional adult dancers and local children from throughout the area. This magical Nutcracker
is topped off by a dusting of snow, which falls over the audience during every performance.
