Georgia Ensemble Theater's 20th-anniversary season bows in high-comedic style with this classic Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman romp. Set at Christmastime in 1930s Ohio, the play tells the hilarious story of venomous New York theater critic Sheridan Whiteside, who's invited to dine at the bucolic home of businessman Ernest Stanley. But before even setting foot inside, Whiteside slips on the front steps and breaks his hip. What follows are a tumultuous six weeks of confinement, during which time the convalescing curmudgeon riotously takes over the Stanley household, with ex-cons, cockroaches and even a few penguins joining the fun/misery. Bette Davis starred in the 1942 famed film adaptation, and this production features a cast of more than 25 talented local actors, led by Wendy Melkonian and Allan Edwards from the company's hit show Becky's New Car
