Sacramento Choral Society: Mozart's Requiem
Now in its 22nd season, the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra (SCSO) continues its exploration of European masterworks with a sure-to-be stirring concert featuring Mozart's Requiem as well as the composer's Exultate Jubilate. Haunted by the thought of death, particularly his own, Mozart feverishly worked on what would be among the last works of his prolific career: his illustrious Requiem. Made even more popular by the 1984 movie Amadeus, the Requiem's dramatic and captivating spirit endures and proves the longevity of brilliance. Also on the bill are excerpts from Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aeterna and James Whitbourn's Lux in Tenebris, featuring guest soloists. Projected supertitle translations enhance the experience, as does a pre-concert talk by Maestro Donald Kendrick. You're also invited to stay after the show for a post-concert reception with the artists.
