Considered by many to be the finest achievement in classical ballet, California Ballet Company presents a grand spectacle of dance with Sleeping Beauty -- a tale of beautiful princesses, sinister witches and the transformative power of true love's kiss. With sensational choreography, Tchaikovsky's triumphant score and a cast of fanciful characters in a storybook kingdom filled with dazzling sets and costumes, it's no wonder The Sleeping Beauty is considered such a treasure. Starring California Ballet's Chie Kudo and international guest artist Vadim Solomakha, this enchanting story of a princess condemned to death on her 16th birthday who can only be awakened by the kiss of her true prince is the perfect romantic fairy tale. The seats I got through this Goldstar promotion were wonderful. Great view from Row F in Orchestra, and could see the dancers' expressions really well. This production was atmospheric and dramatic, perfect for Halloween! The principal dancers (especially those playing Lucy van Helsing and Mina Seward) were fantastic in emoting their parts, all without speaking. Also loved the justaposition of dancing with other scenes that featured actor interaction, but without the ballet. All in all a terrific and enjoyable performance!
* * Dracula was choreographed for California Ballet by Charles Bennett to an original composite score of music. Since its premiere in 1987, _Dracula _has received critical acclaim and audience approval. Castles and wolves, bats and vampires are brought to life as the struggle between the forces of good and evil is revealed. This production’s unique combination of seductive drama intertwined with movement will mesmerize audience members through its shattering conclusion. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
