Never nice to review a preview performance, so I'll assume what few kinks I saw will be worked out over the next week. The set is terrific, as is the lighting, costumes, and the ambient music that runs almost continuously. The actors are both good, though, "Rothko" is both stronger and more understated at once. It's his play, and he's excellent. The play itself treads carefully the lines between profound and pretentious, and pretentious and ironically aware of its pretension; it's thought-provoking, funny, and sad. What more do you want from a night at the theater, except maybe an intermission?
