Major Moments in LGBT History, Seen From a Gay Bar
Come Here Often? drops in on the patrons of a mythical Castro neighborhood bar, The Parlour, at three pivotal periods in the struggle of LGBT people not only to gain equal rights and protections but to literally become visible beyond the kitschy walls of gay bars. The play starts in 1977, as Harvey Milk became the first openly-gay member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, then moves to 1998, when Ellen DeGeneres came roaring out of the closet on TV, and finishes in 2018, when the world is seeing gay marriage legalized and LGBTQ people advancing across the board. Remember the past and look forward to a future that might be all right. So grab a cocktail and a seat with a good view at the Eddy Street Theatreplex in San Francisco, because The Parlour is about to open.
