*Spalding Gray: Stories Left to Tell (Jan 21 – Feb 19, 2011)

Bay Area Premiere

*This unique collection of the master monologist’s work (“Swimming to Cambodia”) catapults the audience into the hilarious, heartbreaking, and ultimately remarkable life of one of the most irreverent and revered storytellers of our time. A five-person ensemble performs the beloved classics and never-before-heard stories that embrace the wit and wisdom found in the words of Spalding Gray.

*_M. Butterfly by David Henry Hwang (March 18 – April 16, 2011)*

An Unforgettable Drama

The most bizarre fact of this incredible play is that it is based on a true story. A French diplomat carried on a twenty-year affair with a Chinese actor and opera singer, not realizing that his partner was in fact a man masquerading as a woman. From these basic facts comes a sensational drama that wonders how such an event could happen, and what stereotypes create the distortion between East and West, as well as between men and women.  Interwoven with illusions to the Puccini opera, "Madame Butterfly,” “M. Butterfly” is a highly theatrical story of love and betrayal set during China’s Cultural Revolution.

*_Candide of California by Voltaire (May 13 – June 5, 2011)

*Modernized and adapted by Brian Katz

World Premiere

In this best of all possible countries, in this best of all possible worlds, lived a young man called Candide who was sure everything that happens is for the best. Sadly for our hero, the rest of the world has a slightly different outlook. This fast-paced, scatological, ensemble-based modernization proves that Voltaire’s sarcastic, bitterly dark, hysterically funny novella is more than timeless; it is, in fact, about our very here and now!*
