Donald Margulies, a Pulitzer winner for 2000's Dinner With Friends, was nominated for the same prestigious prize for this 1997 two-character drama that tracks the relationship between Ruth, a celebrated author with a dry wit and a distinguished career and her bright-eyed young protégé, Lisa. Over the course of six years, the pair share their daily troubles and triumphs alike, as Ruth becomes more friend than adviser. It is rare to have such live theater experience where you are so close (physically & emotionally) to the actors and the play that you can become one with the show, wondering at times if you are watching a show or simply witnessing a reality in motion.
The intensity of the actors at times makes you forget the fine line between the stage and the play and we were ready for more at the end of the play. Thank you for making this experience a highlight of our day.
