Grieving in the Digital Age: Seen / By Everyone
Seen / By Everyone is an exploration of death and grieving in the hyper-connected age of social media. The play consists entirely of found text culled from social media. Over two years, thousands of comments and posts pulled from a variety of social media platforms were collaged together. Placed next to each other, they form conversations, and ask us what kind of digital ghosts are we leaving behind? The audience is invited to follow the ghost of a young woman, Maggie, who has passed away in a "sudden and tragic event." Her digital persona is all that her loved ones have to remember her by. Using only those words she left behind in life, Maggie must make a journey to escape the cycle of life and death. Theater of Yugen and Five on a Match co-present this West Coast premiere of Matthew Cohn's play.
