SF Symphony Plays Copland's Iconic Fanfare
When you're looking for a piece of music that evokes majesty, honor, heroism - say, the Space Shuttle Endeavour is touching down after its final mission, or you need to write the theme for a film about Superman and need a little inspiration -- there's one piece that returns time and time again: Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. Written as America entered WWII, Copland's fanfare was later incorporated into his Third Symphony, and continues to conjure up images of our highest ideals. Get ready for some goosebumps as Michael Tilson-Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony perform the symphony at Davies Symphony Hall. You can also see why Behzod Abduraimov is "a pianist who has it all" (The Seattle Times) when he performs Prokofiev's difficult Third Piano Concerto, and be the first to hear a world premiere by Charles Wuorinen.
