The Joy Luck Club: Screening and Conversation With Members of the Film's Cast
The 1993 film The Joy Luck Club, adapted from the Amy Tan novel, tells the story of four Chinese-immigrant mothers and their relationships with their American-born daughters. The mothers share a sense of failure at being unable to connect with their daughters, and the sacrifices they made in order to come to America are played out like ghosts that come back to haunt them. Before the screening of the timeless film at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, members of The Joy Luck Club cast, including Lisa Lu and Kieu Chinh, will speak onstage, and a free Q&A session about the theater will follow.
