SJSU Wind Ensemble Concert Tackles the Environment
Life on this earth first emerged from the sea. As the polar ice melts and sea level rises, humans find themselves facing the prospect of life once again returning to the ocean. As part of a multi-disciplinary community engagement project surrounding environmental and social justice issues, this concert by the San Jose State University Wind Ensemble features compositions inspired by water and poetry. The program includes Ara Batur by Sigur Ros and Ecstatic Waters by Steven Bryant. It will also feature the premiere of a new composition for live electronics and wind ensemble by Tina Tallon. This piece was commissioned by SJSU Bands and other ensembles from across the nation, and musically illustrates the grave danger that coastal cities face if immediate action is not taken to stem climate change brought on by humans. Don't miss this musical expression of today's most pressing environmental concerns at Hammer Theatre Center.
