$7.50 - $40*
$15 - $50
One of Mexico's best-loved films has been adapted into an exciting stage production by Teatro Visión, San Jose's premier Chicano theater. Based on a novel by the mysterious B. Traven, Macario was a cinematic sensation when it debuted in 1960 and later became the first Mexican film to be nominated for an Academy Award. Now this eerie tale has been transferred to the stage. Famished peasant Macario longs for just one decent meal on the religious holiday known as the Day of the Dead. When his wife manages to wrangle a turkey for supper, the poor man seems to get his wish. But then three mysterious visitors -- the Devil, an Angel and Death himself -- show up and ask him to share. Set in old Mexico, this work is full of dark and fascinating truths relevant to people of all places and periods. The production is in Spanish with English supertitles.
