The musical Camelot
, which debuted on Broadway during the Kennedy administration, was said to be a favorite of the former president, who would listen to the cast recording at bedtime. It's only fitting, then, that Mysterium has chosen to set its production of this classic musical in the Kennedy White House. The show features all of the familiar romantic characters -- King Arthur, Queen Guenevere, Merlin the Magician, Sir Lancelot and the evil Mordred -- and boasts beloved Lerner and Loewe songs, like, "If Ever I Would Leave You," "Camelot" and "The Lusty Month of May." Under the tutelage of Merlin, King Arthur has established the perfect kingdom of Camelot, where he lives with his lovely wife, Guenevere, and a Round Table full of the best knights in the world. However, things aren't as ideal as they would seem. King Arthur's best friend, Lancelot, is having an affair with the queen, and King Arthur's illegitimate son, Mordred, is plotting to overthrow the kingdom.
