Seattle Symphony Opens the Easter Season With Bach's St. Matthew Passion
J.S. Bach's St. Matthew Passion is considered by many to be one of the greatest classical masterpieces of all time. It remains a pillar in the canon of sacred music. The brilliant work is a moving setting of the Gospel of St. Matthew, written by Bach in 1727. The work was premiered on Good Friday that year at the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig, where Bach was Kapellmeister. As a prelude to the Easter season, the most significant Christian holiday, the Seattle Symphony presents it along with the Northwest Boychoir, the Seattle Symphony Chorale and guest soloists.
