Brahms V. Radiohead: A Sonic Synthesis
An amazing process of analysis, discovery, deconstruction and reconstruction led to Brahms V. Radiohead -- a synthesis of Brahms' First Symphony (1882) and Radiohead's 1997 album, OK Computer. All four movements of the Brahms piece and eight songs from the Radiohead album are featured in this incredible sonic synthesis. The envelope of what is possible and permissible is constantly pushed, with Radiohead songs being superimposed above Brahms' music; Thom Yorke's vocal melodies occasionally altered to coexist with Brahms' harmonies; the motives of one interjected into the other, as departures from the score accommodate journeys into a compelling and captivating world that is at once both bodies of work. Three vocalists sing the melodies of Radiohead, both in solo and harmony, alongside the Seattle Symphony for this special performance at Benaroya Hall.
