De Inga Y Mandinga: Afro-Peruvian Music & Dance
Seattle's De Cajón Project brings together local and international artists for its second annual tribute to the mixed heritage of Afro-Peruvians, featuring a bilingual English-Spanish evening of dance, poetry and music featuring the Peruvian box drum known as the cajón. Renowned musician Miguel Ballumbrosio, leader of a Parisian group known as Chinchivi and the 11th son of Peruvian legend Don Amador Ballumbrosio, is set to perform, along with acclaimed composer-violinist Daniel Zamalloa. Monica Rojas, doctor of anthropology and musical artist, produces and directs this event, which celebrates the rich cultural contributions of those of African descent in her native Peru.
