Hawaiian "slack-rock" pioneer and voice of the Occupy movement Makana fuses the traditional style of the islands with influences ranging from folk to rock to bluegrass and jazz. Esquire magazine called the young singer-songwriter the greatest living slack-key guitar player, and Rolling Stone named his song "We Are the Many" the anthem of the Occupy movement. He's been featured on several Grammy-nominated albums, including the soundtrack to the George Clooney film The Descendants, and he's opened for Santana, Sting, No Doubt and Jack Johnson, to name a few. Now this genre-defying musician returns to Benaroya Hall.
