Seattle Philharmonic: Saint-Saëns' Masterpiece
After completing his "Organ Symphony," Camille Saint-Saëns said, "I gave everything to it I was able to give. What I have here accomplished, I will never achieve again." From the virtuoso piano passages to the quintessential Romantic orchestration to the iconic pipe organ parts, the Third Symphony captures the great composer at the height of his abilities and inspiration. With this piece, featuring organist Joseph Adam, the Seattle Philharmonic will close out its season at Benaroya Hall. The other half of this exciting concert contains a powerful call for brotherhood from German composer Bernd Alois Zimmermann. Using words from the Old Testament and Dostoevsky, the piece will feature the talents of actors Terry Edwards and Leslie Law and bass-baritone Michael Delos.
