Fishtank Ensemble takes the stage in Sunnyvale, touring behind their latest CD, Woman in Sin
. The L.A.-based band is known for playing everything from French hot jazz to wild Serbian and Transylvanian gypsy anthems, flamenco, and oddball originals. The performance includes two explosive violins, the world's best slap bass player, musical saw, flamenco and gypsy jazz guitar, trombone, opera, jazz and gypsy vocals, accordion and one little banjolele. Fishtank Ensemble's four members have roots all over the globe -- singer Ursula Knudsen sang opera on the streets of Italy, French violinist Fabrice spent a decade traveling Europe in a mule-drawn caravan, the Serbian bassist Djordje Stijeopovic played with gypsies and rock 'n' roll legends, and the guitarist Douglas "el Douje" Smolens honed his craft in the gypsy caves of Granada, Spain. Their new release was deemed "a boatload of fabulous" by USA Today.
