The nation's brightest, most talented and beautiful young women of color will converge on the nation's capital to compete for the coveted title of Miss Black USA 2012. This year's pageant, with the theme "Black Women Redefined," reflects the American black woman's rising role in leadership. The contestants definitely represent the theme -- 80% of them are enrolled in graduate or professional school and a practicing physical therapist and attorney are among the competitors. Miss Black USA was founded in 1986 to provide educational opportunities to outstanding young African American women. To date, the pageant has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships. The pageant will be hosted by Deya Smith, Miss Black USA 1994 and co-host of the Tom Joyner morning show, along with R&B artist Brian Christopher.
